2024 Beeginners Bee Course
Hey Everyone, I am on a family vacation and will not respond to emails until the week of March 4th. The Beeginners Bee Course is a go, I am just lax updating everything on this website. Contact us if you want to join the course, your name will be on the list and I will connect with you.
April 13th and 14th
An old beekeeper in the Kamloops area who mentored many beekeepers in his time used to say, "Want to keep bees? Take a course, and join a club." Well here is the first step, and an invitation.
We have seen hundreds of people go through our Beeginners course over many years now. I enjoy doing it and it seems to evolve every year that goes by. In the beginning, we taught it through the college, then on our farm, then in town, then online. Our plan this year? A two-day course, Saturday we will meet in Salmon Arm at a community space. There, we will hand out manuals and discuss the basics of equipment, getting started, seasonal management, as well as pests and diseases. Sunday, we will meet at our Farm in Tappen. We will go over wintering, honey extraction while at our honey extractor. After lunch, we will visit some beehives on the property and everyone will have a chance to handle a frame and see a queen bee in action.
We usually have an even mix people who want to keep bees and are chomping at the bit, learning everything they can, and people who are considering beekeeping as a hobby. Some people just come out to learn a little bit of something new. All are welcome.
I do keep nucs available for people who take this course. During the course, we will take names and numbers. The nucs will become available the 3rd and 4th week of May. Sometimes, people taking the course are unsure if they even want to get started right off the bat. Don't worry about making that decision now. We will make sure you have access to what you need to make an informed decision.
